Dear Thirty-Third District PTA Families and Friends,
I am outraged and saddened by the senseless murder of an unarmed black man, George Floyd. It is NOT OK. Racism, in any form, is NOT OK. We need to confront the racism that is prevalent in our society and the time for change is now.
Thirty-Third District PTA represents ALL children and families. We stand for inclusiveness, diversity, equality and equity for all. We stand with all those who are hurting, upset and are feeling unheard. We are here to listen. We are here for all.
PTA has a long-standing tradition of challenging and changing what needs to be challenged and changed. I am proud of the work that PTA has done over the last 123 years and I am certain that we with our PTA membership base can initiate change. PTA is an advocacy organization and through advocacy we need to speak up and speak out for those who are not being heard. I urge you all to become even more active as PTA members. Join PTA and advocate. We are families of all races united by the desire and mission to protect and serve all children.
As a community of volunteers, we are filled with love, respect and acceptance, we can only move forward toward healing together. Every day, you, as part of PTA, work to serve and help individuals and families in our community to create a better tomorrow.
We understand feelings of anger, stress and worry isolation and insecurity from these recent events, as well as COVID-19 and the uncertainty of the new school year. We must be there for each other.
Please remember to be kind, take care of yourself, your families and your community. We must be the solution!
If you need support, know that we are here for you. Please reach out to me, to 33rd District PTA, to your PTA leaders, to your families. TOGETHER WE CAN ACCOMPLISH CHANGE.
In loving support,
Thirty-Third District PTA
